Why Choose Land Freight Over Air Or Sea?

Each shipping mode has its strengths, but land freight is the better choice in three key cases: Land freight is faster than sea freight for regional routes. Dubai to Baghdad by road takes around 2 to 3 days, while sea freight can take 5 days or more. For GCC routes, road freight is usually the faster option. It is also more cost-effective than air freight for heavy or bulky cargo such as construction materials, machinery, and general goods. Most importantly, land freight offers  direct door-to-door delivery without port delays, discharge queues, or terminal handling, helping shipments move faster during busy periods.

Land freight is the right choice when:

  • You are shipping to Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, or Bahrain
  • Your cargo is too heavy or bulky for air freight
  • You need faster delivery than sea freight can provide
  • You want direct door-to-door service without intermediate port handling
  • You are moving construction materials, machinery, vehicles, or project cargo

FTL Vs LTL: Which Land Freight Option Do You Need?

FTL — Full Truck Load

FTL means your cargo fills the entire truck. No other goods share the vehicle. This gives you maximum security, faster transit, and a fixed departure schedule.

FTL is right for you when:

  • Your cargo fills more than 10 to 15 CBM or 5 tonnes
  • You are shipping high-value goods that need exclusive handling
  • You need a guaranteed departure date and direct route
  • You are moving urgent commercial cargo across borders

Standard FTL truck types available:

  • Box trailer (curtain side) — 80 to 90 CBM, up to 24 tonnes payload
  • Flatbed trailer – for oversized or machinery cargo
  • Low-bed trailer – for very heavy industrial equipment
  • Refrigerated truck (reefer) — for perishables, food, and pharmaceuticals
  • Tanker — for liquid bulk cargo

LTL — Less Than Truck Load

LTL means your cargo shares truck space with other shipments. You pay only for the space your goods occupy. This makes LTL the cost-effective option for smaller loads that do not fill a full truck.

LTL is right for you when:

  • Your cargo is under 5 tonnes or 10 CBM
  • You ship regularly but in smaller quantities
  • You want to save cost without sacrificing reliability
  • You are testing a new route before committing to full truckloads

ZMC Express consolidates LTL cargo on all major routes from Dubai, including Dubai to Baghdad, Dubai to Riyadh, and Dubai to Muscat, with regular scheduled departures.

We collect from your warehouse or supplier in the UAE or origin country. We manage cross-border customs clearance at every border. And we deliver directly to the consignee’s address at the destination — no transfer, no delay.

CROSS-BORDER CUSTOMS CLEARANCE

Every international land freight shipment crosses at least one border. ZMC Express manages customs clearance at all borders our trucks cross — including UAE export, Saudi SABER requirements, Iraq import clearance, Oman border procedures, and all GCC cross-border formalities.

Our in-house customs team handles documentation, duty calculation, and regulatory approvals. You do not need to hire a separate customs broker.

REFRIGERATED (REEFER) TRUCKING

Temperature-controlled trucks for food, dairy, fresh produce, pharmaceuticals, and other temperature-sensitive cargo. Available on all major land freight routes from Dubai.

HEAVY AND OVERSIZED CARGO

Flatbed and low-bed trucks for machinery, industrial equipment, steel structures, and project cargo. We arrange special permits for oversized loads and manage escort vehicles where required.

PROJECT CARGO AND BULK TRANSPORT

For large infrastructure and industrial projects — construction materials, prefabricated units, generators, and plant equipment. ZMC Express manages multi-truck project moves across the GCC and Iraq.

MULTIMODAL FREIGHT — LAND + SEA OR LAND + AIR

Sometimes the best route combines modes. Cargo from Turkey arrives by land to Dubai, clears customs at JAFZA, and is then re-exported by sea to Iraq. Or goods are air-freighted from Germany to Dubai and trucked to Saudi Arabia the same day.

ZMC Express manages multimodal shipments end-to-end. One point of contact. One shipment. Multiple modes.

Land Freight Routes From Dubai

ZMC Express operates regular land freight on the following routes. Our branches at both ends of key routes, particularly Iraq give us a major advantage over companies that only have a Dubai office.

Cross-Border Customs: What ZMC Express Handles For You?

Cross-border land freight involves multiple customs touchpoints. Each border has its own documentation requirements, duties, and inspection procedures. This is where many land freight shipments get delayed, and where ZMC Express makes the difference.

At the UAE export border: We file your UAE export declaration and manage the exit formalities. For Free Zone cargo from JAFZA or DAFZA, we handle the required exit procedures and transfer of goods.

At the Saudi Arabia border (for Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain transits): Saudi transit cargo requires a customs transit document (carnet or TIR where applicable). We manage the Saudi customs transit process on your behalf. For direct Saudi imports, we handle SABER requirements — PCoC and SCoC — before the truck departs.

At the Iraq border: ZMC Express manages Iraq import customs clearance in-house through our Iraqi team. With 11 branches in Iraq, we know every crossing — Safwan (Basra), Ibrahim Khalil (Erbil), and others. We file the import declaration, pay duties, and handle any inspection requirements.

At the Oman border: Standard GCC customs procedures. ZMC manages both UAE export and Oman import formalities.

One call. One team. Every border is covered.

2026 Update: Why Land Freight Is More Important Than Ever?

In early 2026, major disruptions hit both air and sea freight routes in the Middle East. UAE and Qatari airspace closures removed approximately 18% of global air cargo capacity. At the same time, major carriers suspended Gulf port operations, with businesses redirecting cargo through alternative routes.

Land freight was unaffected by these route closures. While sea and air shipments faced delays, cancellations, and surcharges, trucks continued crossing UAE-Saudi, UAE-Oman, and UAE-Iraq borders on their normal schedules.

This is one of the most important reasons to have land freight as part of your logistics strategy, not as a backup, but as a primary mode for regional trade. When air and sea face disruption, land freight keeps your supply chain moving.
